Medium: Ceramics Completed: November 2012 Size: 4 ½” x 7 ¾” x 7”
Purpose: This was my first ever sculptural piece which helped me start working with figures—although in this piece, the figure in question has been reduced to bone in his search for an item of eternal power—the black lotus. It was an important step in my creative journey as this was the first time I felt truly comfortable exploring my chosen medium. It was something about working to create a scene that felt just right.
I based this piece off “Black Lotus” by Chris Rahn, and this was the first and last time I worked with the use of another’s art as a crutch for my self-expression. However, I’m proud of the piece, as it is an accurate 3D rendering of a 2D work.
